AWARD WINNING TOURISM FACILITY PROJECT
Gibbons constructions was engaged to design and construct At The Creek tourist information centre located at Julia Creek Western Queensland it was the outlook of Mckinlay Shire Council to achieve a project that would provide information for visitors and provide a participation space also for the local community. Our team worked on Re-location of three old Queensland Rail Fettler cottages, a Jail Cell Building donated by Queensland police. These buildings would form our stage 1 approach. As the construction crew completed the renovation and detailed landscaping works the production crew headed by Charles Hamlyn Harris completed audio and video development that focused on the history of Water, Country and People within McKinlay Shire. Stage 2 was the development of Beneath the Creek a custom building that would feature a entry that would take you Beneath the Creek on a story from rivers that flow to the Hot rocks Below.
This building would be only the second place within Australia to showcase the endangered Julia Creek Dunnart. This area also features a interactive floor that displays life like snakes, Gidgee Bugs and the darting Dunnart catch him if you can.
